The big box of magic

Quantel created the Paintbox in 1981, a 24-bit, true colour, real time, broadcast quality graphics computer which cost a cool quarter of a million dollars. It was the first time bespoke hardware had been created for the purpose of digital painting, and the first to use a pressure sensitive pen.
